The Sukhoi Superjet 100 is a twinjet regional airliner with fly-by-wire control system. Its development began in 2000. 2 years after in 2002 Sukhoj company signed an agreement with Boeing about a common work on the aircraft’s design.

In March 2004 the project could be sold to customers. In January 2007 the first prototype of Superjet 100 was delivered to Zhukovsky near Moscow for test on the ground. After it successfully passed these tests it was again transported to Komsomolsk-on-Amur Dzemgi Airport were on May 19, 2008 it conducted it first flight. After the second prototype’s maiden flight was conducted the series of certification tests began. And to the end of 2010 Flight management system tests were also passed. All the necessary tests and certifications were given in the beginning of 2012.

The first customer of the Sukhoi Superjet was Armenian Armavia. Superjet 100 was delivered to the company in April 2011. The aircraft was given a name “Yuri Gagarin”. The first commercial flight took place in April 2011 with 90 passengers on board.

To 2015 about 100 aircraft were built and more are planning to be constructed.

There are three variants of the aircraft: Superjet 100/65, Superjet 100/75, Superjet 100/95. The numbers refer to the potential passenger capacity of the plane. The production of the smallest version was postponed as the company focused on the 100/95 variant that is now in the process of getting certification. There also an extended version planned; its seating capacity should be 115-145 passengers.
